ATA's ZAT Athletes Travel to New Braunfels
While the super champ athletes were away from home, ATA’s ZAT athletes stayed close for the New Braunfels ZAT at NEWKs. Despite adverse weather, all matches were completed.
Georgia Wright dominated her girls’ 10s draw by winning three matches and claiming the championship crown. Georgia beat M. Batchinsky 8-1, L. Bassett 8-1 and A. Mjos 8-2.
Michael Holder won three straight matches to reach the finals of the boys’ 14s Red draw. He defeated C. Grantham 6-3, 6-3, J. Christian 6-4, 6-4 and A. Purol 6-2, 6-3.
In the girls’ 12s White draw, Smrithi Mahadevan battled to earn two three-set wins. She defeated C. Schrader 4-6, 7-5, 10-8, followed by S. Bi 4-6, 6-3, 10-4, earning her a spot in the semifinals. Joining her in the semifinals, Cierra Yudell beat Madeline Miller 6-3, 6-2 followed by Jordyn Mickey 6-3, 6-2.
Kyler Bender battled Gill Dunn in the boys’ 10s White draw, earning a 8-0 victory. Kyler’s win secured him a spot in the semifinals.
In the boys’ 12s Red draw, Tyler Anson defeated Vinay Maruli 6-3, 6-2, before beating Brandon Howell 7-6, 5-7, 10-2. In the White draw, Tyler Wilkie won two tough matches to reach the quarterfinals. He beat Taylor Greenway 6-3, 6-3 in the round of 32.
Chad Howland took down John VanHove 6-3, 6-2 to reach the quarterfinals of the boys’ 16s white draw.
