ATA Athletes Earn National Rankings; Curry Climbs to the Top Ten
Chase Curry earned the number nine national ranking in the boys’ 16s division as of Nov. 19. With an overall record of 105 – 38 and 2212 national points, Curry reached the top ten in the country out of 2279 eligible players.
“I think it is a great accomplishment but I am not satisfied with that,” Curry said. “I have goals that call for much higher accomplishments like the Jr. US Open.”
The USTA’s National Junior Ranking System is a points-based system designed to create a path for advancement, encourage junior athletes to compete frequently and is simply interpreted such that players can calculate their own point totals. The system ranks players based on points accumulated in National Ranking Tournaments. A player earns points by winning rounds and by beating players ranking within the top 100 at these tournaments. A player’s best 12 tournaments through a calendar year are totaled to determine his or her ranking.
In the boys’ 18s, Blake Davis’ hard work gained him the number 30 national ranking. Davis has logged a record of 79 – 24, while compiling 1730 national points. Also in the 18s, Jeffrey Offerdahl is ranked 111, with a record of 73 – 31.
Jake Berber battled his way to the top 100 best 12 and under players in the country. His record of 41 – 30 gained him the number 99 ranking, as of November.
Compiling a record of 61 – 39, Brooke Hughes earned a ranking of 127 in the girls’ 16s division.
These junior athletes have learned that success is earned, never given. Only through consistent hard work, dedication and a willingness to learn, have these athletes climbed to the top of the nation in their respective divisions.
