Super Champ Athletes Travel to Arlington and Tyler

Austin Tennis Academy’s super champ qualified athletes split between Arlington and Tyler for this years’ October major zone. The 12s and 14s competed in the Arlington Tennis Center Major Zone, while the 16s and 18s traveled to Tyler for the Bob Faulkner Super Championship Major Zone.

Breck Spencer battled his way to the semi finals of the boys’ 14s B draw. In the quarterfinals he defeated Connor Lafavre 6-0, 2-6, 1-0(4), to log his fourth straight win. Dylan Ritter won three rounds to reach the quarterfinals. After a smooth opening round match against David Mann 6-0, 6-0, Ritter went to work against the top seeded Christopher Jones. The match was even after two sets, when Ritter stepped up to claim the decisive third 7-6, 2-6, 6-3.

Jake Berber fought for three tough wins and a spot in the quarterfinals of his boys’ 12s draw. He eliminated Ford Thamisiriboon 4-6, 7-6, (7) in the round of 16.

In the girls’ 12s draw, Molly Fisher outworked Danielle Quevedo 6-7(4), 6-2, 6-4 to reach the round of 16.

Sydney Young took down Chuyang Guan 6-0, 6-1 in her first round match. She then beat Brittini Jentz 6-1, 6-1 for a spot in the round of 16. Allie Burak won her opening round match to reach the round of 32 where she met teammate Maggie O’Meara. Allie earned the win 6-1, 6-3.

Rain delay’s caused the consolation and doubles draws to be canceled in Arlington.

The 16s and 18s traveled to the Bob Faulkner Super Champ Major Zone in Tyler.

Hunter Goertz fought his way through the boys’ 18s B draw, earning three-straight wins and the draw championship. In the finals he beat Behzad Minavi 6-3, 4-6, 6-2. Conor O’Rourke opened play with a 6-1 6-2 victory over Alex Layfield.

Aaron Chaffee made his way to the semifinals of the boys’ 16s A draw. He defeated the five-seeded Jimmy Zhang 6-2, 7-6 for his second win. Josh Hager won his first round match over Matthew Sparks 6-4, 6-4. Austin Mayo fell in two tough matches over the weekend.

Taylor Shamshiri faced Tam Trinh in the first round of the boys’ 18s A draw. After splitting the first two sets, Shamshiri stepped up to take the third set, 3-, 7-6, 6-2. He then beat L. Trautmann 6-2, 6-4, and O. Canibe 6-2, 7-5 for a quarterfinal spot. Avery Rux beat Adrien Delvaux 6-4, 6-3 for a first round win. Charlie Shin rebounded after dropping his first round match to defeat Aaron Poliak 5-7, 6-3, 10-6 for his second consolation victory.

In the boys’ 16s B draw, Rob Steinwedell defeated Daren Brooks 6-3, 7-5 to reach the round of 16. Raymond Traweek bounced back from a first round loss to beat Walker Agathon 7-5, 6-0.

The consolation and doubles draws were canceled early in Tyler due to rain delays.
