Spenco ATA Summer Open a Success
Mid-July in Austin, TX typically brings a broken record for consecutive days of triple-digit temperatures, week seven of summer camp, and of course, the Spenco ATA Summer Open.
Directed by Coach Brian Notis, 33 ATA junior athletes competed in this past weekends’ tournament.
Winning three matches while dropping a mere three total games, Abigail Chiu shot through the Girl’s 12s Q draw to take the title in dominant fashion. She took down Tara Donaho 6-0, 6-0 in the final round. Meghan O’Malley beat Rachel Naumann 6-2, 6-1 to make the quarter finals. Remi Immler defeated Julia Medellin 6-2, 6-0, earning her a spot in the consolation semi finals.
With two consecutive third set victories, Tyler Wilkie collected the crown of his boy’s 12s NQ draw. He beat C. Smith 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the finals. Ankith Kandikonda beat Nevin Amirilli 6-1, 5-7, 10-8 to reach the semi finals. Tyler Anson competed well in two tough matches through the tournament.
Spencer Chiu emerged from his boy’s 12s Q draw to win two matches and reach the final round. He took down B. Boyar 6-3, 2-6, 10-8 in the quarter finals. Payton Holden defeated J. Cobb 6-1, 6-1 for his second win and a semi final spot. Rahul Gorti beat Eduardo Corona 6-3, 6-1 in his first round match. For his second win and a place in the quarter finals, Erik Kerrigan defeated A. Baskerville 7-5, 6-0. Keaton Qualls outlasted Ben Standley for a 6-4, 5-7, 10-7 win in his first round match. Sanjit Kumar bounced back from a first round loss to defeat E. Corona 6-2, 6-1.
Harrison Chiu went undefeated in the boy’s 10s this past weekend. He beat Mariano Corona 8-0 for his third straight victory. Kyler Bender played hard and earned valuable tournament experience in three matches.
Mikaela Pope beat C. Burton 6-2, 6-2 to win her Girl’s 16s NQ draw. She defeated C. Camp 6-1, 6-4 in the semis.
Colton Malesovas won his first three matches to make the finals of is boy’s 16s Champs draw. He beat J. Burch 7-5, 6-2 in the semi finals. Jaxon Immler reached the quarter finals after beating W. Burns 7-5, 6-3 in his second round match. After falling in his first round, Garrett Callen bounced back to defeat B. Walter in an epic 6-4, 4-6 13-11 consolation quarter finals match. Liam Leddy went down in two tough matches over the weekend.
James Seward won the consolation championship in his Boy’s 16s NQ draw. He beat Chad Howland in the semi finals.
Danielle Cuteri earned a 6-0, 6-4 victory over K. Nussbaum in the semi finals of her Girl’s 12s NQ draw.
Jacqueline Patterson defeated Emily Varnell 6-2, 6-1 for a quarter final spot. Aarti Bhat beat K. Holder 6-4,, 2-6, 1-0(5) to reach the consolation finals.
In the Boy’s 16s SC draw, Elliot Blatt beat C. McClinton 6-2, 7-5 to make the quarter finals. Raymond Traweek won his first round match over Arturo Ravelo 6-0, 4-6, 10-7. Ben Smith beat Garrett Lee in their first round match-up 6-1, 6-1. Also advancing to the round of 16, Matthew Milliken defeated Mariano Ravelo 6-1, 7-5. Ryan Burak competed well through the tournament.
The Boy’s 18s Open draw saw two ATA players reach the semi finals. Josh Hagar defeated C. Hogan 6-1, 6-0 while Aaron Chaffee advanced passed C. Bond in their quarter final matches. Conor O’Rourke ricocheted back from a first round loss to win two matches and claim the consolation championship.
With the hectic summer schedule well underway, these junior athletes are building on many hours of hard work through the week. Look for them to continue to succeed in next month’s major zones. Apply now!!
