ATA's ZATs Compete in College Station; Four Qualify for Champs
The increased intensity that comes with summer did not take long to produce positive results. This past weekend, ATA’s ZAT players traveled to the Bryan-College Station Schools Out ZAT, four of whom came home qualified for Champ’s.
Katherine Spencer won four straight matches in her girl’s 12s White draw, taking the title while qualifying for the Champ division. In the finals she faced Jordyn Roller, who swiped the first set of the tournament from Spencer. Katherine bounced back to take the decisive tiebreaker for a 6-4, 5-7, 10-4 victory. Danielle Cuteri won two matches on her way to the semi finals. She defeated A. Wilson 6-0, 6-3 in the quarter finals. Smrithi Mahadevan played two tough matches through the tournament.
Liam Leddy took the title in his boy’s 16s Blue draw, defeating teammate Jaxon Immler in the finals 1-6, 6-2, 10-8. Jaxon defeated R. Northcott in the semi finals 6-1, 6-1. Both Immler and Leddy earned Champ status.
James Seward displayed his bounce-back ability after a tough first round loss by earning three wins and the consolation crown. He beat S. grant 6-4, 6-4 in his final match.
In the boy’s 16s White draw, Andrew Levitan ran through five rounds to earn the championship and qualify for Champs. He beat T. Warren in the finals 2-6, 7-6, 10-5.
Tyler Wilkie won two tough matches in his Boy’s 12s White draw to secure a quarter final spot. In the round of 16 he out lasted G. Vega for a 7-6, 0-6, 10-6 victory. In the Red draw, Ankith Kandikonda defeated K. Evans 6-1, 6-0 to advance to the quarter finals.
Look for these junior athletes to continue succeeding as they make strides practicing through the summer months.
