ATA Hosts SPENCO ATA Pre Summer Grand Slam Open

Austin Tennis Academy hosted the SPENCO ATA Pre Summer Grand Slam Open this past weekend. With draws ranging from boy’s and girl’s 10s non-qualified to boy’s and girl’s 18s qualified, there was a draw to accommodate all ages and levels.

The boy’s 18s open draw culminated in an all ATA final with number 1 seeded Jeff Offerdahl facing teammate and number two seed Avery Rux. Offerdahl prevailed, securing his fourth straight victory and the tournament title. ATA teammates Charlie Shin and Hunter Goertz completed an all ATA final four, each earning two tough wins to reach the semi finals. Chris Dale defeated Andrew Parks 6-4, 7-5 to reach the quarter finals. Conor O’Rourke took down Austin Early 6-1, 6-2, joining teammate Dale in the third round.

The girl’s 18s open draw also saw an all ATA final round, when Brittany Brewster and Claire Cahill each earned three wins. Brewster prevailed, claiming the draw championship without dropping a set in four matches. Kate Cahill defeated Afton Heinatz 7-5, 6-4 to reach the quarter finals.

In the boy’s 16s SC draw, Aaron Chaffee fought to earn four matches and take the draw championship. In the finals he defeated J. Randell 3-6, 7-5, 6-4. Austin Mayo won two matches to reach the quarter finals. He beat A. Alda 6-4, 7-6(4) in the round of 16. Raymond Traweek beat George English 7-5, 6-2 to advance to the round of 16. Ryan Burak earned high-level experience in two tough matches.

Sydney Young won two matches in her girl’s 16s qualified draw, securing a semi final spot. She beat L. Wilkerson 6-1, 6-1 in the quarters. Smrithi Hariharan bounced back from a first round loss to earn a hard fought victory over H. Waring 4-6, 6-4, 13-11, reaching the consolation semi finals. Maggie O’Meara competed well in two tough matches.

Jaxon Immler worked for three tough matches to earn his draws championship crown. He took down Andrew Levitan 6-1, 3-6, 7-6(5) in the final round. James Seward beat R Lavery 6-0, 6-1 to advance to the semi finals.

Molly Fisher won four matches in her girl’s 12s draw to win the tournament. In the finals she defeated P. Niezgoda 6-3, 6-2. Haarika Somarouthu fought hard for her first round win, defeated A. Buchanan 6-3, 5-7, 7-6(7). Meghan O’Malley defeated F. young 7-5, 6-2 to reach the consolation final. Remi Immler and Alexandra Young played hard in two tough matches.

The girl’s 16s NQ draw saw Mikaela Pope defeat Caitlin Burton 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 to reach the semi finals.

Greyson Brilliant earned two tough wins to reach the semi finals. Garrett Callen defeated A Black 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 to secure a quarter final spot. Neel Kumar fell in two hard fought matches over the weekend.

Alexandra Burak won three straight matches to reach the final round on her girl’s 14s Q draw. She defeated K. Vo 6-2, 6-2 in the semi finals. Carli Knezevich defeated M. Shkolnaya 6-2, 6-2 to reach the quarter finals. Aarti Bhat beat Y. Astapova 6-3, 6-4 in her first round match. Jacqueline Patterson earned valuable experience in two tough matches.

Dylan Ritter reached the quarter finals of the boy’s 14s Q draw. He beat P. Goddard 6-3, 6-1 for his second win. Matthew Milliken defeated Thomas Guerrero 7-5, 6-0 to advance to the round of 16. Breck Spencer beat N. Gonzalez 6-2, 6-2, also advancing to the round of 16. Ben Smith and Conor O’Meara bounced back from first round losses to earn wins in their next match, only to be rewarded by facing one another. After splitting the first two sets 6-3, 3-6, Smith edged out O’Meara for the decisive third, 12-10 in the tie breaker. Rohan Makhija and Sreyas Mahadevan went down in two tough matches through the tournament.

Zane Ritter won his first two matches without dropping a game to reach the semi finals of the boy’s 12s Q draw. Sanjit Kumar beat C. Erwin 7-5, 6-7(2), 6-0 for his first round win. Payton Holden beat J. Parker 6-1, 6-1 to advance to the quarter finals. Rahul Gorti defeated I. Perez 6-2, 6-2 in his first round match. Jake Berber beat A. Laycock 6-0, 6-3 to secure a semi final spot. Erik Kerrigan reached the round of 16 with a 6-1, 6-2 win over E. Corona.

In the girl’s 12s NQ draw, Katherine Spencer won two tough matches to earn a spot in the final round. She defeated L. Legg 6-1, 6-1 in the semi’s. Danielle Cuteri and Smrithi Mahadevan played hard through the tournament. Georgia Stevens claimed the consolation crown in her girl's 12s draw.

Zach Knezevich defeated A. Hadzalic 6-0, 6-0 to reach the quarter finals of his boy’s 12s NQ draw. Tyler Wilkie beat B. Ozsaracoglu 6-0, 6-2 to advance to the round of 16. Ankith Kandikonda took down C. Pace 6-4, 6-1 to make the quarter finals. Jay Spiers fell in two tough matches.

Tyler Anson won three straight matches to take the boy’s 10s title. He beat N. Arimilli 8-3 in the finals. Kyler Bender and Grant Stevens also competed in the draw, earning tournament experience.

Cierra Yudell took the title of her girl's 10s draw, defeating her teammate Julia Patterson in the finals. Patterson reached the final round by defeating J. Mickey 8-3 in the semi’s.

The ATA athletes claimed the championship in six draws over the weekend. Look these athletes of all ages and skill levels to build on this tournament experience in next months Summer Grand Slam or other tournaments around the state.
