Wilson Representatives Join ATA Team for Doubles and Dinner
Wilson representatives from across the country congregated at Austin Tennis Academy this past Wednesday, to participate along side Academy L1 and L2 players and coaches in a PRO-AM style doubles event and dinner presentation.
After the entertaining and at times animated doubles play, the Wilson family joined the ATA team for a delicious Texas Salt Lick BBQ dinner in the fitness center, highlighted by inspiring speeches from both current and former ATA athletes, as well as ATA CEO Jack Newman.
The speakers reminisced about their past experiences and future plans with A Glimmer of Hope Foundation, with whom ATA and its athletes have teamed up to help fight poverty in Ethiopia by providing water wells, health centers and schools. Adam Slagter, just graduated captain of the Penn State team spoke about what he learned from being a part of the ATA program that applied in college. Greyson Brilliant spoke about his various projects to raise money for A Glimmer of Hope Foundation, Mikaela Pope discussed the fundrasing dinner she hosted this year and Josh Hagar spoke about the founding of the playing for glimmer campaign.
The mission of Austin Tennis Academy is to create not only well-rounded tennis players of accomplishment, but also citizens of significance, that take the lessons learned through tennis, and apply them to all aspects of life.
Whether it is in tennis, charity or life, each speaker explained that a goal-oriented approach to whatever you do is always the best system for success. This is exemplified by the uncommon dedication of the ATA athletes to contribute to ‘Glimmer’. It is not a chore or requirement for these junior athletes to contribute, rather it is a choice each has made on their own, realizing their privileged situation gives them the ability, and therefore the necessity, to give back.
With new friends, full stomachs and inspired hearts, the PRO-AM style doubles event and dinner presentation was a huge success. Along side our friends from Wilson, it was yet another fun evening at ATA.
