ATA's Champ Players Compete in College Station
The Championship qualified athletes from ATA traveled to College Station this past weekend to compete in The Big Event Champ Major Zone.
Matthew Milliken responded to a first round loss by claiming the consolation championship of his boy’s 14s draw. Matthew rallied to earn four straight matches while knocking out two seeds on his way to taking the title. Rohan Makhija worked for two tough wins to secure a spot in the quarter finals. In the round of 16 he defeated Matthew Zhang 6-1, 6-2. Sreyas Mahadevan fell in two hard fought matches over the weekend. Conor O’Meara came out strong in his first match, earning a tough three set win, 3-6, 6-3, 6-1. After securing a second win, O’Meara had earned a place in the quarter finals.
The girl’s 12s draw saw Remi Immler take down Nikita Pradeep 6-3, 6-2 to advance to the quarter finals. Smrithi Hariharan, competing in the girl’s 14s draw, fought for a three set victory over Natalie Abouk 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 in her first round match.
In the boy’s 12s draw, Sanjit Kumar came up with two tough wins to reach the quarter finals. He defeated Jerry Gong in his second match, 4-6, 6-3, 6-1. Rahul Gorti rebounded after falling first round to defeat Johnathan Martin 6-3, 7-5.
In the boy’s 16s draw, Greyson Brilliant fought for two victories and a place in the quarter finals. He out worked the number seven seed Daniel Knesek 6-2, 6-0 in the round of 16. Garrett Callen defeated Garrett Browne 6-4, 6-1 to reach the round of 16. Daniel Howell dropped two tough matches over the weekend.
Look for these junior athletes to continue building on their hard work in this months Spenco PreSectionals Open, and next months San Antonio Champ Major Zone.
