ATA Athletes at St. Stephen's Take 2nd at SPC Championships
Jeff Offerdahl, Raymond Traweek and Grayson Brilliant are teammates at the Austin Tennis Academy. However, the trio also collaborates on the court to represent their place of education, St. Stephen’s Episcopal School.
St. Stephen’s is part of the Southwest Preparatory Conference (SPC) that consists of 18 college preparatory schools throughout Texas and Oklahoma. Often referred to as the Ivy League of college preparatory schools, the SPC is dedicated to ‘…physical fitness and instruction in skills and character, for the intrinsic worth of individual sports and team games…”
May 9th marked the beginning of the Spring SPC Championships, which pitted St. Stephen’s against Casady School in the first round. The St. Stephen’s Spartans secured a semi final spot with a 3-2 victory over Casady. In the final four, The Spartan’s faced Greenhill School out of Dallas, coming off of a 5-0 first round match. Jeff Offerdahl, competing at line 1 singles, led the Spartan’s to a 3-2 victory over Greenhill and a place in the final round. There, the team faced Kinkaid School, who slid passed the Spartan’s for a 2-3 win.
While the team’s impressive run fell just short of flawless, Sophomore Jeff Offerdahl kept his singles record blemish free, extending his winning streak to two straight seasons. By not losing a line 1 match in two years, Offerdahl earned All-SPC honors for the second consecutive year.
Look for these athletes to build on this years run to the finals in next seasons SPC Championships, while Offerdahl will try to extend his winning streak through season three.
