Brewster Takes 6th at MCB Girls 14s Championships
The top 15 players from each USTA section were invited to play in the MCB Girls 14s Championships this past weekend. This marked the 38th annual meeting of this national event, held on the clay courts of T-Bar-M Racquet Club in Dallas, TX.
Representing the Austin Tennis Academy, Brittany Brewster was invited to compete in this national championship named after Maureen Connolly, or ‘Little Mo’.
Brewster’s first round match positioned her against Alexandra Bourguignon from Issaquah, WA. Brittany earned the win convincingly, 6-3, 6-0, to advance to the round of 16.
Next she faced the number 4 seed, Lauren Burich, from Hinsdale, IL, ranked number 63 in the country. Brewster battled through two tough sets, taking the match 6-4, 6-3, to earn a spot in the final 8.
There she faced the number 6 seed G. Smith from Henderson, NV. After splitting the first two sets 1-6, 6-4, Smith took the third set 6-2 to take the match.
Brewster then matched up against Lauren Patterson from Roswell, GA in the 5th/6th place draw. After dropping the first set, Brewster bounced back to take the next two sets and the match, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3, advancing her to the finals of the 5th/6th place draw. There, she faced Peggy Porter, who took the match 6-2, 6-2.
Brewster tallied a 3-2 record over the weekend, earning her a 6th place finish in this national event.
ATA Head Coach Jack Newman had this to say: "This is not a surprising result from my perspective, Brittany is one of the hardest workers day in and day out at ATA. She has been a very focused, disciplined, hard working tennis athlete for the past two years and this result validates her work."
Look for Brittany to build on this success in next months major zone as well as other upcoming national events.
