14 Junior Athletes Compete at the Austin Tennis Academy Glimmer of Hope ZAT
ATA’s ZAT players enjoyed home court advantage this past weekend as they competed in the Austin Tennis Academy Glimmer of Hope ZAT, while Coach Brian Notis, ATA’s Director of Junior Development, served as tournament director.
In the boys’ 12s draw, Rahul Gorti won four straight matches to take the tournament title. In the finals he defeated J. Lee 6-1, 6-2. Keaton Qualls earned two tough wins and a place in the quarter finals. He defeated M. McKillip 6-4, 6-1 in his second round match. After dropping his first match, Ankith Kandikonda fought for five straight victories. In the finals he defeated T. Foster 6-1, 6-7(3), 12-10 to claim the consolation crown. Tyler Wilkie earned valuable tournament experience in two matches over the weekend.
Jaxon Immler earned a semi final birth by beating B. Anderson 6-3, 6-4 in his boys’ 16s draw. In his firsts match, Immler defeated L. Pierce 6-2, 6-2. James Seward defeated C. Bunting 6-1, 6-2 in his first round match, earning a spot in the quarter finals. After falling first round, William Leddy earned four straight wins and the consolation championship. In the finals he defeated Z. Freeman 6-3, 6-4.
Michael Holder fought for two straight third set tie breakers to reach the quarter finals. He defeated R. Reddy 4-6, 6-1, 10-8 in the round of 16.
Eathan Krieger fought for two tough wins in his boys’ 10s draw over the weekend. He beat C. Sabharwal 8-5 to earn a place in the semi finals.
After dropping the first set, Mikaela Pope came back to defeat K. Winsko 0-6, 6-4, 10-4, earning her a spot in the semi finals of her girls’ 16s draw.
Smrithi Mahadevan bounced back from a first round loss to win three rounds and claim the consolation crown. She defeated R. Naumann 7-5, 5-7, 10-2 in the finals. Allie Young fought for three tough wins and a spot in the final round. She beat A. Buchanan 2-6, 6-3, 10-6 in the semi finals. Danielle Cuteri and Julia Patterson competed in two tough matches over the weekend, earning important experience.
