ATA Attends Annual UT Season Kick-off Dinner
Coach Lucie Schmidhauser and Kate Cahill represented the ATA at the University of Texas Annual season kick-off dinner presented by the men's and women's tennis teams. The event was held in the Winkel-Centennial Room, 9th Floor of Darrell Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium. The food was excellent, the program stimulating.
In attendance were among others the UT Athletic Director DeLoss Dodds, both UT men's and women's tennis teams, the UT Tennis coaches and several former players. It was great to hear the Head coaches' previews of their respective seasons. The men's team is currently ranked #2 in the nation and women are ranked #16 pre-season. The women's team kicks off their home matches with a January 24th match against Rice and the men play on January 31st against UC Santa Barbara.
The seniors gave great speeches, full of emotion and humor. I was very proud of these young men and women...their poise, confidence and great insight shows the quality of the university's education and the coaches' commitment to excellence not only on the tennis court but also in recruiting and mentoring great human beings. I think many of our parents and players would have enjoyed this special event.
I hope the ATA community will support both teams this spring. These young men and women
are not only great tennis players but also very classy people. The ATA players can
