Coach Notis and The 2008 Texas Mens Intersectional Team Claim National Crown
Austin Tennis Academy’s Director of Junior Academy, Brian Notis, and the entire 2008 Texas Men’s Intersectional Team earned first place in the men’s 35s as well as contributing to the overall team championship for Team Texas.
“Much like what our juniors experience at Zonals, I found Intersectionals to be a fun event,” coach Notis said.
The 2008 USTA National Men’s Intersectional Team Event combines the top talent from each section into teams distinguished by age. There were divisions for men’s 35s, 45s, 55s, 65s, and 75s with Team Texas taking first in 35s, 55s, 65s and as the overall top team.
“It was great getting to team up with so many of my longtime friends from Texas who I usually only get the opportunity to compete against,” coach Notis said.
A team match consists of three singles matches and two doubles matches. Coach Notis teamed up with Michael Westbrooks to take on a tough Southern team. The other three singles matches and one doubles match were split 2-2, so their match represented the tie breaker and possible clincher.
“Michael Westbrooks and I have known each other for over a decade and have played against each other half a dozen times or so,” coach Notis said. “We played well together and were able to provide the clinching match for Team Texas to win the dual match and the event on Saturday.”
