Austin American Statesman- At tennis academy, winning also means helping the needy

Check out Andrea Ball's Philanthropy column in today's Austin American Statesman, At tennis academy, winning also means helping the needy:

The kids at Austin Tennis Academy don't just play tennis.

They fund wells in Africa. They help underprivileged children attend summer camp. Now they're raising money to pay for a school, a health clinic and 11 wells in the Tigray region of Ethiopia.

"We're trying to raise $150,000," said Josh Hagar, 14. "I think it's very possible."

The article concludes:

The players, families and coaches of the tennis academy have pledged to raise $1 million for A Glimmer of Hope over 20 years. To contribute to Playing for Glimmer, write to playingforglimmer [AT] austin.rr.com.

"We've got some amazing kids here," Newman said. "It makes me want to go out and do more when I see what they're doing."
