1983 Alums Still Strong at Claremont Colleges Ducey Cup Dual, Senior Berber
The two ‘most experienced’ members of the Claremont Colleges Alumni team, ATA Head Coach Jack Newman and fellow ’83 graduate Bill Konya teamed up in the annual Ducey Cup showdown, pitting Stag graduates against the current Stag squad, a roster that includes ATA Alum Ryan Berber.
The Newman and Konya duo helped lift the alums to a 10-6 Ducey Cup Match win over the NCAA Division III 4th ranked Claremont roster. In the afternoon dual format, Konya and Newman faced a true test in Ronald Wu and 2007 Wilson/ITA West Regional Singles Champion Mikey Lim. In an overall dual that the current Stags won by a most narrow 8-7 tally, Wu and Lim snuck by Newman and Konya 8-6 at #3 doubles.
Next year, 2008 senior Stag Ryan Berber will be back at the Ducey Cup, part of the alumni squad with Coach Newman. Now, Ryan and the Stags charge at the NCAA Division III National Championship, gaining some of Coach Newman’s invaluable experience.
