Seven Compete in College Station ZAT, Holden 10s Titlist, Mitchell Moves to Champs

Seven Austin Tennis Academy students competed in the Bryan and College Station ZAT June 2nd and 3rd. Each ATA player competed hard and with good sportsmanship. ATA Head Coach Jack Newman and Junior Development Director Coach Brian Notis caught the action firsthand.

Payton Holden overcame all opponents and adversity, including a great 8-6 semifinal duel with Castagnola in the semifinals. With the Bryan/CollegeStation title, Payton has won two ZAT tournaments consecutively. Coach Notis watched as Bryan Mitchell "played awesome in his qualifying match," a semifinal 6-3, 6-1win over Don Krenek. Mitchell fell in the finals, 10-6 in the 3rd to Patrick Morales. Casey Shaw made the semifinal round of his second 14s tournament, falling to Champion Chris Walters in 3 sets. Pierce Kelley won his first round before falling in the second round. Molly Fisher "moved her feet well," commented Notis, and "kept balls in the court against a player three times her size," in a second round loss.

Meghan O’Malley defeated Macy McCoy in a marathon 3 set match before falling to finalist Alexandria Maciel. Carli Knezevich lost in the first round, staying positive and battling hard.

Congratulations to the players, parents and coaches who made the trip to College Station. The ATA coaches look forward to the July ZAT here in Austin. We encourage all ATA JA and JD students to participate.
