ATA Stars Shine in High Sschool District Meets
Several ATA players competed in the 4A and 5A High School District Tournaments on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. These district events lead to regional which lead to the State Finals tournament in May.
Congratulations to Christine Schatz and partner Alexis Weinig of Lake Travis HS for winning the 4A Girls Doubles. They defeated the #1 seeded team of fellow ATA teammate Jessi Waite and her partner Stephanie Maldonado of Dripping Springs HS 6-1, 7-5 in the finals. Both teams will advance to the Regional Tournament in San Antonio at the end of this month. Also placing in the tournament, sophomores Shannon McLellan and Victoria Noetzel beat a very tough #2 seeded team from Marble Falls 6-3, 6-4 to take 3rd place. And in girls singles, Hailey Posas was runner-up after losing to the very tough #1 seed and teammate Hideko Tachibana, also of Lake Travis HS 6-0, 6-2.
In the 5A District tournament, ATA players again dominated the girls doubles draw. Congrats to the girls 5A champions Meghan O'Rourke and partner Alesha Kishan of Westlake HS. They took down the #1 seeded team of Blair Jones and Paige Poulin, also fellow high school and ATA teammates, 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 in a hard fought final Wednesday afternoon. Both of these teams will also advance to the Regional Tournament in a few weeks.
Way to go girls! Great job of representing your schools and ATA. We are proud of you! Best of luck to all of you at Regionals.
