Seung Min Kim Finalist at Sectional Little Mo, Three Advance to Regional Mo at ATA

‘Great players started here! Andy Roddick, Jamie Hunt and Donald Young own its Sectional and National Hardware.’ It’s not the first advertisement for the Little Mo Sectional, Regional and National tournament series, but it is a common explanation for its popularity and great tradition across the U.S.

Combine that tournament history with the Texas born and raised stature of legendary namesake Maueen Connolly, who won the true Grand Slam at age 18, and you’ve got a premier tournament for ages 12 through 8 and under. So, what is the first advertisment for the Little Mo? It’s a lot of fun!

Austin Tennis Academy’s Seung Min Kim snagged some Sectional hardware over the weekend, earning finalist honors in the Sectional Little Mo at Arlington Tennis Center. Kim cruised early, defeating Plano’s Eric Hadigian 6-1 in the second round. Then, in the semis Kim denied Frisco (4) seed Clark Shannon 10-3. The final showdown set Kim against Arman Dave of Flower Mound. In a 10 game pro set battle, Dave snuck by Kim 10-9(5) in the breaker.

Seung Kim was not the only ATA competitor in the Sectional Little Mo. Maggie O’Meara nearly advanced to the semifinal round, falling to Houston’s Kaylin Kruseman in three sets. Matthew Lee is one player who will warrant a wildcard discussion for the Regional Mo. He and Conor O’Meara squared off in the 16 round of the 11 and under draw. O’Meara advanced 10-5 in the third set breaker. Molly Fisher fell to finalist Sydney Riley 6-4, 6-4 in the same round. Jake Berber competed in the Little Mo and had a great event.

Finalist Kim, Maggie and Conor O’Meara as well as possible wildcard selections will advance to the Regional Little Mo at Austin Tennis Academy May 26-28. ATA hosts the I35 heartland corridor sections Northern, Inter-Mountain, Missouri Valley and Texas. Seung now has the opportunity to play at his home site, where ATA players and families will cheer him on. Congratulations and good luck to the competitors!

In addition to hosting the Regional Mo, ATA is hosting the National Little Mo October 20-22, and the International Little Mo December 5-9. It is a great chance to see the early years of tomorrow’s champions...and maybe a couple of ATA’s own.
