Coach Jack Newman Named USPTA Texas Section Touring Coach of 2006
Austin Tennis Academy Head Coach, Jack Newman was named Touring Coach of the Year by the USPTA Texas Division. Presented at the USPTA/USTA awards banquet in the Woodlands, Texas Feb 10, 2007.
The United States Professional Tennis Association is the world's oldest and largest association of tennis-teaching professionals. With more than 14,500 members worldwide, USPTA strives to raise the standards of the tennis profession while promoting participation and lifetime enthusiasm for tennis.
This award is given to those who currently coach a playing professional on the ATP tour or the WTA tour. Coach Newman was awarded this award for his work with Ashley Weinhold who went from unranked to #380 in the world in 2006 on the WTA computer rankings. Ashley was a finalist in both singles and doubles at the G18 USTA National Championships in August 2006. She capped her year by playing 5 divisions at the 2006 U.S. OPEN, including winning two rounds in the Women's qualifying draw. Ashley also played in the USOPEN Women's doubles draw with, the USOPEN Mixed Doubles Draw with #1 junior in the world Donald Young, as well as junior girls' singles and doubles.
Coach Newman is a USPTA Master Professional.
