Giving Well update and Team Tournament Opportunity
Congratulations to the ATA player Brett Ellen Keeler who organized a skate party to help raise money for A Glimmer of Hope to build a water well in Ethiopia. Through the generosity of the Keeler family, the Skateland skating rink was made available to ATA juniors for a skating party on Saturday night. Over 100 people participated in the event. ATA players have raised, through collecting donations at the well and with the skating party over $2100 towards their goal of $3000.
This weekend will see another opportunity for players to participate in a fun way to raise money. They ATA will be hosting a team tournament next weekend. All players who enter from the Academy and junior development programs will be drafted onto four teams. Team Gambella, Team Axum, Team Dembidolo and Team Addis Ababa. Each team will play each other team in a flighted, round robin competition to be held all day on Saturday and on Sunday morning prior to team tennis. The entry fee of $25 will cover lunch on Saturday and prizes with the remainder to be donated to the giving well to help the players raise money for the well in Ethiopia. Each team will have boy and girl team captains and each player will play three singles and three doubles matches in the course of the competition.
Thanks to Brett Powers for coming up with the original idea and to Whitney Waters for thinking of making it into a Texas Cup-style team competition.
