PHILOSOPHY

“All who have meditated on the art of governing mankind have been convinced that the fate of empires depends on the education of youth.” — Aristotle

ATA College Prep is a community supported learning environment providing a personalized educational experience for students age 11-19 to maximize individual potential in academics, athletics and character. Implementing Socratic methodology and performance-based real life applications, we provide the foundations of a well-rounded liberal arts education.

We are a small school by design and choose to grow incrementally. We currently offer a unique educational opportunity for 32 students allowing our instructional staff to mentor quality experiences for each. Based on goals, aptitudes and learning styles, a development plan is created to inspire the student to learn and live with integrity, and to recognize, through self-awareness, the opportunities to acquire those necessary skills. We encourage a proactive, self-disciplined approach to goal-setting and time-management, community leadership and service.

To encourage community sharing and stimulate thought and communication, a one-room, mentored schoolhouse approach is used across grade levels for integrated enrichment activities: moderated seminars, simulations, round table discussions, oral presentations, community service projects, topic-based videos and movies, guest speakers and cultural explorations.

In addition to academic requirements for graduation, CP students regularly engage in unique systems for short and long-term goal planning, accountability and responsibility, leadership and citizenship development, and practicing awareness and compassion for self and others.

Parents and community members are an active part of our educational team, pedagogy, and curriculum advancement. Students must possess the desire to become the best that they can become in athletics (Body), academics (Mind), and character (Spirit).  Instructional coaches must possess the desire and the ability to model continuous learning and innovation of subject matter. Parents must possess trust in our dynamic and innovative approach to personalized development and learning.

Because we are interested in growing the whole person, we employ parent education, community gatherings, and healthy communication to create flourishing environments.

ACCREDITATION

ATA College Prep is fully accredited through Advanc-Ed and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), a member of the Texas Private School Accreditation Commission (TEPSAC).

ATA CP is dedicated to continuous improvement so that we may better serve our community through leadership education.

GIVING BACK

Students are surrounded by opportunities for community service and they are encouraged to participate in activities that broaden global perspectives. Ongoing volunteering opportunities include community events as: the Playing for Glimmer campaign, ATA sponsored tournaments, the ATA Shootout and Glimmer of Hope events. Students also serve as mentors to their younger counterparts — coaching, tutoring, and taking responsibility for bettering one another, the program, their community, and ultimately the world. Here is a sampling of the passion projects our students are creating and promoting.

“Individually, we are one drop. Together we are an ocean. ”  — Satoro

Josh Hagar (Class of 2012) speaks to the students of St. Ignatius about the Playing for Glimmer campaign, and his trip to Ethiopia.

PLAYING FOR GLIMMER

Each year, the Playing for Glimmer (PfG) campaign offers students an opportunity to play for something bigger than themselves! Spearheaded by ATACP alumni, Josh Hagar, the PfG campaign has helped raise over $500,000 over the past 4 years to build schools, water projects and health facilities in rural Ethiopia.  These efforts are in direct partnership with A Glimmer of Hope Foundation.
