Weekend Tournament Recap : Austin/Waco SCMZ

While many of the ATA junior athletes were battling in Belton, others were working hard in Waco and in Austin at the super champ major zone. See the standout results below, and get full results by clicking these links : Austin / Waco :

Congratulations to Jake Berber for winning the Boy's 14s B Draw in Austin! He took down Conor O'Meara 6-4 in the third in the final round, coming back from being down a set and a break.

“The whole tournament Jake played with patience and poise,” Coach John said. “Jake answered all opponents as he calmly finished the tournament with two three set victories.”

Congratulations to Josh Hagar for winning the consolation draw of the Boy's 16s A draw in Waco!

"Josh is coming back from an injury that took him out for a few months," Coach Newman said. "This was a terrific first performance back. Josh was intense and worked on elements of his game that will take him back to the top 10 in the state."

Congratulations to Charlie Shin for taking the consolation championship in his Boy's 18s A Draw!

“Charlie Shin competed with complete intensity at this event," Coach Newman said. "He has been working on his competitive composure and made good strides in this event. His competitive energy was strong this weekend.”

Congratulations to Sydney Young for winning the USTA Texas Section Waco SCMZ Girls Sportsmanship Award! She also earned the sportsmanship award at clay court nationals in March. Sydney earned the doubles championship in Waco as well.

“Sydney Young showed in her first 16s superchamp that she can compete with the ‘big girls’,” Coach Newman said. “She dominated her doubles draw and competed very well in singles. All that with great sportsmanship and poise.”
