Update From The ITF Junior Circuit

This week, ATA Academy player Josh Hagar is in Tulsa, Oklahoma, competing in an International Tennis Federation tournament.

The ITF Junior Circuit is a series of tournaments for players aged 18 & under, aimed at improving competitive opportunities and helping to develop a player’s skills.

“ITF tournaments are the pathway to junior grand slams,” Coach Jack Newman said.

The Pan American ITF Championships, taking place at Tulsa University, is the fourth highest level ITF in the United States, after the Junior US Open, the Orange Bowl and the Eddie Herr.

Hagar won two matches in the Qualifying draw to secure a spot in the main draw. He defeated Kenneth Boykin 6-2, 6-3, before taking down Nicholas Alexander Reyes 6-2, 6-4 in the qualifying match.

In the first round of main draw, Josh matched up against Trey Strobel, who is ranked 29 in the nation. Josh scrapped out a victory on Monday vs Strobel, 6-4, 5-7, 6-3.

Over the past month, Hagar, along with other ATA athletes, have competed in ITF tournaments in Waco and Wichita Falls.

Charlie Shin competed in both the Waco and Wichita Falls tournaments. In Waco, Charlie won two matches, taking down Parker Siller 6-3, 6-0. He then defeated teammate Spencer Chiu, before going down in the quarterfinals to Charles Boyce, 1-6, 6-4, 2-6. Chiu saved match points in his first round singles match to earn the win before facing Shin.

Also in Waco, Brooke Hughes beat Mallory Kenny in the opening round, 6-1, 6-0, before being edged out by Canada’s Hannah Sulz, 6-2, 2-6, 2-6. In doubles, Brooke paired up with Caroline Turner to reach the semifinals. The duo earned three wins, taking down Chang and Garley on the USA in the quarterfinals 6-3, 6-3.

In Wichita Falls, Charlie fought for a win over Aaron Pierce 6-4, 6-3, before falling
to the number 2 seed, Jordan Daigle.
