Sno-Beach and Coach Anthony Assist Tri4Glimmer

Sno-Beach Shaved Ice, one of Austin’s many food trainers, has been cooling summertime cravings for years. With flavors like wedding cake, tiger’s blood and blackberry’s and cream, the shaved ice trailer has something cold and sweet to quench everyone’s thirst. Now, Sno-Beach is using frozen treats to do more than cool down the summer sun; they are using snow cones to Change the World.

The owner of Sno-Beach and close friend of ATA Coach Anthony Martinez, Elizabeth Guleke, recently came up with an idea to use snow cones to help others. She explained that she was moved by the work done by the One for One Movement, established by TOMs Shoes.

“I've been blessed beyond belief,” Guleke said. “Every single morning I wake up and am still in awe that this is my life. I racked my brain for how snow cones could make a difference..."

Then, one night in the shower, the idea came to her. She explained that people constantly come to Sno-Beach and begin counting out change to pay, and apologize for the inconvenience.

“I always said no need to apologize, money's money. Yes change is annoying. It weighs down your purse, if you drop it on the ground you don't always pick it up, especially if it's not heads-up, and that jingle in your pocket isn't always welcome, but... it does add up! From that moment on "Change the World" was born in my head."

Now, every time a customer pays with change, they throw it in a bucket. At the end of each month Elizabeth takes the change to the bank, and picks a philanthropy or charity to which to donate the money. This month, as a birthday present to Coach Martinez, she let him choose the organization that the change would benefit. He chose to give this months proceeds to the Tri4Glimmer campaign.

The Tri4Glimmer Campaign, started by Coach Estevam Strecker, benefits A Glimmer of Hope Foundation, working to help those in dire need in rural Ethiopia. You too can still contribute to the cause that Coach Strecker, Coach Martinez and Ms Guleke have worked so hard to help. Click this link to learn more and to join the effort to Change The World!
