Newman / Brooks / Cahill Recognized at USTA Texas Awards Banquet
A group of ATA players and coaches traveled to the Dallas area to attend the banquet, and celebrate with other proud participants of Texas tennis. Members of the ATA community received three prestigious awards:
Coach Jack Newman received the USTA Texas Section Lloyd Sessions Educational Merit Award.
Established in 1979, The Lloyd Sessions Educational Merit Award recognizes an individual that is actively involved with junior players. This individual must exhibit outstanding activities at a professional level in building stronger junior tennis players at all levels of play. This is the second time Coach Newman has won this award. His work developing the Austin Tennis Academy College Prep program was a significant factor in winning this year's award.
Since 1975 the USTA Texas section has honored a family for their contributions to Texas tennis as the USTA Texas Family of the Year.
“I am proud to receive the "family of the year" award, since my family has "lived the sport" for the last 19 years,” Deb Cahill said. “We have all benefitted from our involvement with tennis and of course, our involvement with ATA, which has been an integral part of our family. The journey of being a tennis family can be hard at times, but the coaches and families at ATA have made the journey possible. Any tennis parent can relate to having to be at 3 different tournaments on the same weekend, but having the support of the ATA coaches have made this a lot easier. My children have all learned to give back to the community through their various service projects and work ethic through working at ATA. I personally am grateful that I have been able to use my MBA and combine it with my love of tennis and family and could not be more proud. We would like to thank the USTA Texas Section and their member organizations for honoring us in this way!”
Coach Kendall Brooks received the USPTA Texas Section Touring Coach Of the Year award.
“It was definitely a surprise when I heard that I was going to be receiving this award” Coach Brooks said. “I feel honored to be chosen out of the hundreds of hardworking and dedicated coaches in our section that do what I do daily. And I was proud to be able to represent ATA and all of our coaches as well.”
From the entire ATA community, congratulations to Coach Newman, Coach Brooks and the Cahill family!
