Ashley Weinhold's Day 9 in Spain
Hola,
Today we finally got to do some exploring around the island. One of the girls in the tournament that we made friends with let us borrow her car for the day. Before the fun started I had to get my running and weights done first. After lunch we headed to Porto Cristo which is only about 10km away, we heard they had cool caves there. We found them after winding around the little streets and attempting to follow the signs properly which was a bit of a challenge, but we made it. We had a little time to kill before the cave tour started. We followed a trail that lead us down to the water and a secluded inlet area with mountains in the background, it was beautiful. The water was many different blues and so clear I wanted to jump in, but it was a bit too chilly. We headed back to Cuevas Del Drach and started our tour along with tons of other people who were there to see them also. Inside is Martel Lake, one of the largest underground lakes in the World. The cavern was very cool and we were down there for quite awhile. Towards the end of the cave there was a large seating area where we all sat to watch and listen to a classical music concert. They performed in row boats on the water and had exceptional lighting focused in different areas of the cave. It's kind of hard to explain because it was a bit weird to us at first and we didn't even know the mini music concert was part of the tour. We also got to ride in the row boat for a few minutes, you can't go all that far on the underground lake anyways. It was pretty cool altogether. After that experience we went into the town of Porto Cristo and had a snack at a little restaurant near the water. We walked along the waterside and went to a couple little stores in the area also. The view along the water of the houses and boats was gorgeous.
Then we headed back to the town where our hotel is and explored that area. We hiked up to another spot with a great view of the island from every direction and a lot of greenbelt area. By that time we were pretty wiped out from all the hiking and walking. When we got back to our hotel we had some dinner and just chilled for the rest of the night. Tomorrow I'll be practicing in the morning and playing sets in the afternoon. My next tournament is here at the same place and starts next Tuesday. Time for bed, talk to you guys later!
