Grace London and Her Band, Residual Kid, In Local Competition

The Schmidhauser family has been a part of Austin Tennis Academy since it’s existence. Eric and Lucie are founding members of the Academy. Max, their youngest child, is currently in the Young Talent program. His contagious passion is quickly becoming a staple around the ATA campus. Lucie is an Academy Coach and Co-Director of Summer Camps, and Grace participated in the Junior Development program when she was 8 and will attend ATA College Prep this coming fall.

Now, Grace is 11 years old, turning 12 in November. Since her time in JD, she has smoothly transitioned from tennis to music, and found the same passion for guitar and vocals that lives in her brother for tennis.

Grace plays guitar and sings for the band, Residual Kid, made up of Ben Redman (12), Max Redman (11), Deven Ivy (12), and Grace London (11).  The Redman brothers met Deven Ivy in 2009, and Grace joined in 2010 when the foursome formed the band.

“In late 2010, they were introduced to vocalist and guitarist Grace London (11), an amazing and talented musician also well beyond her years. Her ethereal yet edgy voice and their musical chemistry has garnered them attention reserved for bands much older,” (residualkid.com).

Residual Kid is currently competing in the Austin Chronicle Sound Wars band competition.  People vote on the best sounding band and the band with the most votes gets to play at Waterloo Park at the Hot Sauce Festival at the end of the summer.

As performing at the Festival would be a great experience for the band and a major step forward, the ATA community is doing what it can to help one of its own reach her goals. Anyone can check out Grace’s music and vote for her band by clicking this link. So check out what Grace is up to and vote! Voting ends Friday at midnight.
