Day One of ATA College Prep 2011-2012

Monday marked the first day of the 2011-2012 ATA College Prep school year. With new classes, classmates and classrooms, day 1 was designated for introductions of all kinds.

The group started the day, as they typically will, at the courts for morning practice with Coach Newman and Coach Davis, before heading up to the ATA CP classrooms.

The first exercise the students did at school was to pair up in groups of 2-4 based on certain constraints, including: at least one person in each group must be a girl, at least one person must have been born out of state, etc., all while remaining completely silent.

Then, within those groups, the students headed outside and each person had to stand in front of his or her group and talk for a minute about him or herself. After that minute, the rest of the group had 2 minutes to write down everything they could remember.

After everyone in each group had taken a turn, everyone headed into the classroom, and each group introduced each member one-by-one based upon the facts that they had written down.

For lunch, Ms Hannah Hagar’s cooking class prepared turkey burgers, with guacamole and chips for lunch.

The students split into classes through the afternoon where the teachers introduced them to the each other, the new classroom space and the material.
