Coach Strecker To Compete In Ironman On Sunday
This coming Sunday August 28th, Coach Estevam Strecker will swim, bike and run over 140 miles; and he is trying to do it in 12 hours or under.
Sense January, Strecker has been on a periodized training program. Every day since the start of the year has had a calculated plan; from total rest on some days, to a 4.5-hour bike followed by 1.5 hour run on another day.
“That day was a butt whooping by the way,” Strecker said, on the latter of the two.
The journey begins Thursday morning at 7 a.m. when he and his wife, Lia, travel to Louisville, Kentucky, where he will compete in the Ford Ironman Louisville.
Thursday is a travel and rest day. Friday, he will check-in and re-assemble his bike and do a short safety bike ride. On Saturday he will do a short mandatory safety-check swim. Then at 7 a.m. Sunday morning, the real fun begins.

First, he will swim 2.4 miles in the Ohio River. Once out, he will run to the transition area and get his bag with his helmet, shoes, socks, jersey, etc. He will change as fast as lightening, jump on his bike, and hit the road. The bike route will take him 112 miles winding through Louisville and beyond, ultimately looping back to the same transition area. There, he will get the second bag, containing his running gear. After speedily changing again, he will take off on the 26.2 mile run through downtown Louisville.
“My goal is 12 hours which would be an hour and a half in the 2.4 mile swim 6 hours on the bike 112 and a 4.5 hour marathon 26.2 for a total of 140.6 miles,” Strecker said.
Anyone can track his progress online during the race and show your support.

“When the race gets tough, knowing people are tracking me online will be added motivation to keep going. I can definitely sense the positive energy,” Strecker said.
While the race gun has yet to fire, Strecker explained that he has already accomplished some of the challenges.
“One of the biggest challenges is completing the training, which I did without having any setbacks.” Strecker said. “I finished all of the tough workouts and felt great so that gives me a lot of confidence that I will be able to reach the finish line."
He also expressed thanks to the ATA community for its continued support of his efforts over the past 9 months.
“Thanks to the ATA family for their unconditional love and support,” Streck said.
Good luck Coach Strecker!
