Accrediting Team Visits ATA College Prep

Over the past two days, a committee from the AdvancEd SACS, Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, observed and evaluated the Austin Tennis Academy, and it’s ATA College Prep program. The visit is the final quality assurance review within the application process for accreditation.

“The committee told us in the exit report they are recommending us for full accreditation,” ATA College Prep Director Carol Hagar said.

She explained that recommendation for full accreditation is rare for a school of this size and in its 4th year of existence. The committee observed classes, interviewed teachers, parents and students, met with administrators and toured the facilities. They also reviewed all curriculum and documentation.

“I thought the visit went very well,” Carol said.

In the next step in the process, the team will formalize their final report of their findings and submit it to the national level for voting. ATA administration will be able to review the final report within 30 days of submission. The report will include commendations, opportunities for improvement and required actions.

“As the committee exited, they offered three commendations of the program: a commitment to educating the whole person, a strong scholastic curriculum using the Socratic methodology, and commitment to community service,” Hagar said.

AdvancEd SACS will make a final decision and notify ATA administrators in late June or early July.
