ATA Junior Athletes Preparing for National Clay Courts
This week, many of ATA's top athletes are competing in the USTA Clay Court Nationals. Jeffrey Offerdahl, Chase Curry, Tomas Stillman and Taylor Shamshiri are competing in the 18s. Josh Hagar is in the 16s, and Payton Holden and Jake Berber are in the 12s.
The group took a trip last week to Horseshoe Bay to practice on clay. Take a look at some videos and pictures of a few of the players practicing back at ATA before leaving.
Coach Newman works with Jeff and Chase as they hit groundstrokes. He encourages Chase to get more ark with his backhand, a shot-shape that is better suited for the clay courts.
Jeff rallies with Chase. Notice the consistent footwork between shots, not only recovering to the middle, but executing the '1-2-3 split' concept to perfection.
Jake Berber watches the ball into his racquet.
Berber lifts into a topspin forehand.
