ATA CP Student Grace London And Residual Kid Deliver Strong Message

ATA College Prep student, Grace London, and her band, Residual Kid, are an Austin-based rock band. Made up of four musicians between the ages of 11 to 13, it is extraordinary that the band will be releasing a six-song EP recording this October. It is truly inspiring, however, what the band continues to do in and through music, portraying a maturity beyond even their cumulative age.

The band will be featured on ABC’s “20/20” for their song “Can’t Take Me Away”. The song will be featured on October 7th in the "20/20" story titled "Eighth Grade Murder" about Larry King, who was shot by a classmate for being gay.  The song is the backdrop to the story.  Grace wrote the song about her own experiences at school.

"I was mad when I wrote that song," Grace said, in an article on ABCnews.com. "I was mad that people were judging me and labeling me just because I didn't act like everyone else and didn't do whatever I was 'supposed' to do. I would prefer that people dislike me for being myself than liking me for pretending to be a totally different person."

ATA CEO Jack Newman had this to say about Grace and her pursuit of music :

“ATA College Prep student Grace Schmidhauser is pursuing music at the same level of passion as our tennis students.  She also shares the ATA core value of giving back.”

This comes on the heals of her 'Glimmer for Grace' campaign, where she used music to help fight famine in Africa.

I don't really care, it doesn't matter

I'm talking to a tree

So what, that's me

Whatever.

(chorus)

You can't take me away

I just want to stay forever

You can't move me

I don't care if you plead

No never

I don't care what you say

I like my little world

I'll stay here

You can cry, I will be fine

Right here

(chorus)

(bridge)

What do you want

You want me to be just like you

What do you want

You want me to follow you too

I don't wanna do

I don't wanna do what they do

I'm good the way I am

I'm fine the way I am

Thank you

(chorus)
